Excerpt
I met Kirstie Wulf in 2012, when I held a building course in Sydney at the home of hemp activist Dr. Andrew Katelaris. A building designer herself, who had already specialised in sustainable concepts such as passive house design, strawbale and earth construction, Kirstie originally discovered hempcrete in an article published by Owner Builder magazine and so it was a natural progression. The good insulation, humidity regulation and resistance, together with the self build potential, convinced her that this was the material with which to build her house.

A comprehensive overview of 50 projects this latest book from author and hemp expert, Steve Allin, draws on architectural examples of every kind to showcase the vast range of possibilities available when using hemp-based materials for construction.
In the last 35 years, this unique material together with the systems that have developed from it has provided vital pointers to how buildings can become more energy efficient. Through lowering carbon emissions and promoting a healthier environment, hemp has a clear role to play in providing innovative solutions that lead us forward into a cleaner and more sustainable future.
